Marathon weeks 5-8

Posted on Jun 16, 2024

I’ve finished my next four weeks of training for running a marathon. Here’s how it has been going.

Schedule adherence

Adherence is fairly strong. I’ve had two issues:

  1. I ran into a rock on one session, which caused less run kilometers that week.
  2. Sometimes its difficult to get the week to add up with other commitments that week.

Progress

The total distance I’m expected to have run each week.1

Progress

The longest single distance each week I’m expected to run.

In summary, I’m adhering to the plan, but I’m worried about general life commitments to interfer.

Estimate adjustments

In Chances of success I made some estimates on my odds of actually completing the marathon. This provides and updates to these values.

  • General dropout before actually registering (-10%)
    • I still haven’t registered, so this is constant.
  • Fitness compared to failed runs in prevalence (+0%)
    • Until I meet someone how has done this course (or similar) this will remain as-is.
  • General life circumstances (-20%)
    • I’ve decreased this with 5 percentage points as I feel there is now a conflict here.
  • Injuries (0%)
    • Knees actual feel better, so I’ve reduced this to 0%. No other injuries present. (AFAIK)

All in all, I’m still at 40% odds.

  1. As the acute reader might have noticed, I’ve changed to track to cumulative distance run, to accomodate for weeks where I’m sick, I run longer or other weekly variations. I believe its the total distance run before the race is what counts, rather than individual weeks. ↩︎
